Bagel Bake Fest 2008!
It is common knowledge in Peru that a pregnant woman cannot do any heavy lifting, sweeping, etc. (unless it is inside of your own home where no one can...or is willing to stop you!). So instead of putting up window frames today, I stayed home and had a fun time teaching some friends how to make bagels. Between the three of us we managed to cover the table with flour and come up with some new shapes and sizes for bagels (like the super-mini bagel bite that's the same size as a pinkie ring...for all those dieters out there!)
The mixer we got as a wedding gift came in handy as we whipped out three batches of bagel mix. The first ones were a little iffy in shape, but still edible. The last batch were dreams come true. We also managed to squeeze in a little time for homemade Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, chatting, sampling hand lotion, ordering Chinese food (and eating it), as well as a bagel tasting before calling it a day. I was glad to have enough energy for entertaining and welcomed the company after many Saturdays of lying on the couch too exhausted to do anything else!
Church Planting 101
Today Eric headed off to the new building site ready to help the other men move the furniture from our rented location a few doors down to the newly completed first floor of the church. We were excited about the possibility of holding church services there tomorrow. However, when he arrived there was no moving going on. Since the new building has no windows, the task for the day was to make temporary ones with wooden frames and plastic coverings. Sounds simple enough, right? But nothing is ever as easy as it looks! In order to keep the tacks from ripping through the plastic a piece of an old cement bag had to be folded up for each tack. Only then could the tack successfully hold the plastic sheet to the wood without tearing it. So for about four or five hours Eric was the "tack man" and came home satisfied at having helped the church move one step closer to moving...but with slightly numb thumbs. =) Keep praying for the pending move and the pastor's health. Eric will be preaching tomorrow morning as the pastor preaches about missions at another church in town.
Juegos Florales - The Olympics Continues
The air around the playground has been charged with excitement this past week as students cheer on their teammates in an ongoing Olympics-style competition. From pre-school on up the school has been split into two teams, red and blue, and from these opening ceremony pics I'm sure you can almost hear the shouts of the students. Obviously all of the excitement didn't come from the students! (Teachers Heinz Noche and Daniel DeLand led the way for the red team).
Can you find Eric among the blue crowd?

Pastor Evelio
For those of you who get our prayer letter you know that our Pastor recently had surgery to remove a cyst. On Sunday morning he was back at church looking a little thinner but ready to preach the Word! He asked for continued prayer for his recovery. After suffering an infection from the surgery he had to return to the doctor, and is scheduled to go for his final check-up in ten days.
Also, during his recovery he has had to deal with construction issues as well. Pray that the final funds will come in quickly so that we can finish the building, including the third floor which will be the Pastor's new home.
The photos are of Pastor Evelio and his wife, Gloria. The congregation outside of the old church building before it was demolished, and the new three-story building going up.
