We are so thankful to those who were praying for us during the birth of our fourth child and the days that followed. Judah Nathanael was born by C-section on June 22nd at 36 weeks. He spent a few days in the NICU with some complications and jaundice but now both he and mom are happy and home. We also praise the Lord for the provision of all funds needed to cover the hospital bills. Pray for us as we adjust to life with four children, for balance of family life and ministry, and for our personal sanity!
Just this past week God met both our need and the need of some friends who needed to sell their 2006 7-passenger SUV! We have the car in our garage and have saved up the majority of the asking price. We have about $5,000 to go to fully pay it off. Please pray for us as we begin the paperwork of changing titles and both learn how to drive a stick-shift.
Church news - With the more faithful members we finished up the first part of a discipleship course right before the baby was born. While taking the course we have worked on encouraging them to be faithful in church attendance, reading the Word, praying and meditating on a daily basis. Many have expressed a new found desire to take these steps of obedience. Please pray for continued spiritual growth.
Coming soon our church will be celebrating its 40th anniversary with a weekend of special services, a soccer tournament among some Baptist churches in the area and a special meal. In August several people from the church will accompany Eric and Joshua on a missions trip to the jungle region of Quillabamba. We also look forward to a visit from Arthur Raske, a Creationist who will be teaching a course on Genesis at the seminary and sharing a Biblical Worldview of creation while Eric translates. Pray for him as he prepares to translate this course and also to teach a course on Spanish grammar coming up in October.
In my first two
months as pastor of the Iglesia Cristiana Bautista in San Sebastian, I baptized
two teenagers, preached a funeral, was the expositor at an evangelistic meeting
in a church plant born from the church we serve in, and have begun a
pre-marriage counseling class (for a couple whom I will be marrying next
month!). Incredible how God just gives
you the ability when you need it! Certainly God girded me with strength for the
battle (Psalm 18:32). Casandra and I
were just talking the other day, and it is so clear to both of us that God has
brought us to serve in this church “for such a time as this”.

had an evangelistic campaign in the church plant born from our church, where
they showed the movie “Fireproof” and I preached from Romans 5:8. Near this area of Cusco (Saylla) witch

I began with about 15 (among men and women) excited to learn more of the Word
and grow in their spiritual lives.

The seminary in
Urubamba (where we used to live) just had its opening service to begin a new
academic year. I will be teaching two classes (Doctrines 2 during the first 3
wk of Apr. and Spanish Grammar in October. Also a former professor of mine,
Arthur Raske, will be accompanying us in Aug/Sept teaching a class on Genesis
and giving several mini-conferences in churches on the weekends.)

On the 21st
and 22nd of this month our church will be having its first missions
conference! We have two missionary families lined up to be with us and we WILL
be taking them both on for support. For
how much remains to be seen.

I just can't express enough the incredible Peace that God
has given us that passes all understanding and guards our hearts and minds in
We are leaving for Peru! In a few days we will board a plane with about
10 suitcases for an 8 hour flight to Lima, Peru, where we will begin
visa paperwork, pack up our household belongings that have been in
storage, take another flight to Cuzco, and then take a two hour trip to
our new hometown of Urubamba.

For three years we have been praying for this day to arrive and it
finally has! We still have not reached our full support level; but, due
to some pressing needs on the field, the door was opened for us to
leave early this year. We have prayed about it, and through God's
leading we sought and received godly counsel from our sending church and
mission board. We will be leaving on January 28th with their blessing,
and ask for your prayers for several important requests.

1. Pray for the religious visa situation in Peru. New laws have gone
into effect causing problems and delays all around. Pray that we would
receive an 180 day tourist visa upon our arrival in Peru in order to
begin our residency paperwork. Also, for God to move the heart of the
king (president!) to change the current visa laws in our favor.
2. Pray for our 8 hour trip to Lima with the boys and Eric's mother, 10 suitcases, and about that many carry-ons!
3. Pray for the packing up and relocation of our household items that have been stored in Lima for the past three years.
4. Pray for our family to adjust quickly to the higher altitude of mountain life in Urubamba.
5. Pray for the lost of Peru to be receptive to the message of the
Gospel and that they would allow Christ to change their lives!

Ministry opportunities that Lord willing await us...
Eric-
1. Teaching/translating seminary classes
2. Teaching a few high school courses in Heroes of the Faith Christian School
Casandra-
3. Helping lead the 3-5 year old Kindergarten program at the same school
4. Homeschooling the boys
Everyone-
5. Becoming involved in the local church plant
6. Reaching out into the surrounding villages as the Lord leads

More than ever we need your prayers as we venture forth
to fulfill God's calling on our lives! Thank you for your faithful
support as we have been traveling on deputation, and for your future
support as we reach the field.

As we cannot possibly say goodbye to everyone in person we have made a
short video for you and/or your church to enjoy!
Thank you for your prayers!

This year has been very challenging for us...

We have traveled about 35,000 miles visiting churches up and down the East coast, over to Michigan and up to Wisconsin and back again. We thank God that we had no accidents, no break downs, and very few repairs.

We were thrilled to be expecting our third child, only to lose the baby at 18 weeks because it stopped growing at 6 weeks size. We thank God that He provided for all of our needs during the difficult month that followed. Without Him, we could not have continued on.

We have visited many churches and met too many people to count. Sometimes we met so many that we would have to literally dump all information out of our brains in order to make room for the next round of meetings! We thank God that so many of you have left lasting impressions on our minds and in our hearts because of your love for God and dedication to Him.

We have so much to be thankful for, and as we head into 2013 we continue to ask for your prayers on our behalf. We thank God for the team of prayer warriors He has brought around us who help hold up our hands as we serve.

A new year often brings new hopes, new plans, and new dreams. May you seek the Lord in all that you hope, plan, and do!

Please pray for us and the many decisions we have to make this year.

MAY JESUS MAKE YOU CLEAN IN 2013!

Be blessed!
So it has been our habit to take turns rescuing each other's sanity by taking the boys somewhere, anywhere to release the pent up energy that comes from deputation travels and life as a growing boy in general.

So, yesterday, since I was feeling more sane and Daddy was striving diligently to contact churches, study, and tune out the cars, trains, book-on-tape, singing, and races around the living room, we loaded up the car and with a bag of marshmallows and two cups of apple juice to keep us full of energy we headed off on our "field trip" to buy winter hats and gloves for the snow that awaits us in a few weeks up North.

Praising God that we were in and out of Old Navy in 10 minutes with no crying, no lost trains, and no emergency trips to the restroom, we gleefully raced down the hallway to the enclosed playground. After a quick pep-talk, the boys eagerly threw themselves into the act of burning off their energy.

Returning to the play room!

A few minutes later another Mom brought her son in and sat down on the opposite side of the play area. He played quietly here and there until Steven decided that he wanted to play with the same toy and pushed him out of the way. Horrified, of course, I corrected him and sent him on his way and then asked how old her son was. It turned out that they were both born on the same day and she came over and we started chatting.

When asked if we lived nearby I commented that my parents live in the area and then followed the Holy Spirit's prompting to mention that we were missionaries in Peru and were visiting churches in the area. She mentioned how she'd always wanted to see the Inca ruins and that got the conversation going. I asked if she attended church here but she was only in town for a doctor's appointment.

As we talked I looked through my purse for a gospel tract, a prayer card with our email on it to stay in contact, anything! And came up empty. What a disappointment! After a few more instances of my son pushing hers around it was time for us to go.

As I walked out to the car, I felt the Holy Spirit saying Go back and give her a tract. I was tempted to excuse it since I didn't have any on me, but as soon as I opened the sliding door of the van, the only thing on the floor was a tract from my parents church that I had picked up a few weeks ago. Even though Joshua was already in his car seat, I gathered them back up and wheeled the stroller around to go back into the mall.

The sad part was that when I got back to the play area the lady and her son had left. I felt deflated and disappointed that the opportunity to share more had been cut short, but then I remembered that I had done what I felt God wanted me to do, despite having already been out at the car, despite having hungry boys wanting their lunch, despite having already talked to her about God. Why would God have me go back there if He knew she'd be gone? Maybe He just wanted to know that I was willing.

One thing I do know, the act of "being ready to give an answer" requires the same forethought that packing for our "field trips" does. I hardly ever forget to check my bag for diapers, wipes, drinks, and snacks. That would be unthinkable! Now, I need to add gospel tracts to that list. We travel so much, and meet so many people, that we can never be too prepared.

Praying for another chance to share Christ very soon!

During this road trip (which, by the way, has only lasted two days so far) our sons set a new record for "How long will it take before we cause a catastrophe?"

In all fairness, Steven was the first one to a score a point this round, but since it was out of his control, we let it slide. The car was packed beautifully (translate: we could see out of the back window!) and after driving 4 1/2 hours we pulled into the Best Western parking lot. Steven had been serenading us with "Oh, a big truck! Oh, a big car! Oh, a big light!" for at least an hour and we were ready for bed! He woke up coughing in the night, had some tea, and settled back in to sleep. In the morning we were dressed for church on time and leisurely strolled down to breakfast where the boys sat nicely. Steven was still coughing and as we neared the end of breakfast he coughed even harder and eventually threw up on the table. First apology of the trip - "I'm sorry, our son has emptied his stomach on your table. We did an initial cleanup for you, but you might want to disinfect it before the next guest comes down. Have a nice day!" Bustling out the door we headed to church...

Upon arrival, Eric went to locate the table to set up our display while I entertained the boys in the beautiful foyer (translate - Dangerous zone filled with delightful things for little boys to get in trouble in.). Joshua bounced onto the couch and hugged the cushions, then bounced off to examine the plant on the table. The table top was a glass circle...can you see where this is going? He leaned on the table and I reprimanded him that it would not be wise to do so. I turned away to tend to Steven and when I turned back, Joshua was once again leaning on the table. As I opened my mouth and began, "Don't do that, the table will..." CRACK! The table split in two and one half toppled to the floor with the disheveled plant. Joshua looked up horrified, but the damage was already done. Who knew 40 lbs. of pressure could split glass?

After disaster struck...good as new!

Second apology of the trip - "Um...thanks for inviting us to your church. I'm really sorry, I know we just stepped through the door, bu our son just destroyed your lobby. Do you have a vacuum nearby?" Thankfully, the Youth Pastor was prepared with a spare top and by the time the people started to arrive no one was the wiser.

Needless to say, I spent the rest of the day steering a wide path around all tables! In spite of it all we remained unflustered and sought God's help to share our heart for Peru. We had a wonderful time at the church and the boys even sat in on the evening service...but that's another story for another day!
We are so thankful that during our crazy weeks of VBS this summer, there were others praying for us at their own churches. The kids at Ringwood Baptist and at our sending church, Madison Avenue Baptist, brought in their money for the penny offering and blessed us with an outstanding love offering!
There was more than enough money to meet our need for new suitcases as we travel. A few of the old ones were barely hanging on with broken hinges and holes! The phrase "Just put some Duct tape on it" could commonly be heard around our house. The rest of the money will be used for our other "Outfit and Passage" needs when we are ready to leave for Peru.

Here are some pics of the boys enjoying the suitcases as only boys can!
We've felt that feeling of accomplishment mingling with exhaustion four times this summer and we thank God for every opportunity He has given us to jump headlong into ministry and share the gospel in churches across the country. We know how powerful prayer is and how necessary it is in seeing lives changed, and we thank you all for joining us in prayer for our ministry opportunities. Each church visit along the way has been another stepping stone in our preparation for further ministry in Peru. That is why we continue to pray for God to open doors to be used as we travel. We are exhausted, but not tired! For His glory!Pardines In Peruhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16239087888254498943noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6070282579144663674.post-58843997173999202132012-08-06T22:01:00.001-05:002012-08-06T22:02:21.557-05:00Truth Quest VBS...The Search for Heaven!Tonight was our first night of VBS here in Tampa, FL! We went to the church early to do some final set-up just as the thunderclouds rolled in and heavy drops started coming down. "Lord, keep the rain at bay!" was our heartfelt prayer. Though the sky looked ominous the rainfall was very light compared to the downpour we experienced on the way to church last night. We weren't sure if ten kids would show up, fifty kids, or just our two. There were seven children when we started the first song, but God faithfully provided 25 children for our first night! We learned some songs about Heaven and Eric taught the Bible lesson before they headed out into the drizzle to go to crafts, games/snacks, and a verse/review time. At the end of the night one little girl was saved! All of the late nights, early mornings, planning, running around, and stressing, were worth it, to see one more added to the Kingdom. As we arrived at the hotel parking lot we sang praises of thanks to God (in Spanish of course).
Much prayer went into the preparation for the VBS and the Holy Spirit was definitely at work among the kids and workers alike.

We are now in Tampa, FL, and getting ready to run our first VBS as directors! While it has been fun to organize everything, the most important thing we need is prayer. As we passed out flyers today, one VBS worker was able to lead a young boy to Christ! Please pray for us this week, that we would be humble servants of God, and that His Word would RUN bringing souls to Him!Pardines In Peruhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16239087888254498943noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6070282579144663674.post-86811235471674513682012-07-03T23:30:00.000-05:002012-07-03T23:30:33.644-05:00We had a great time this weekend in Portersville. We stayed in a lovely missions home and the boys enjoyed exploring it. Steven was content as long as Mommy was close by, but Joshua kept insisting, "We don't belong here!" The Pastor lived next door and Joshua also insisted that we were going to go and stay at his house.
On Sunday morning Eric was able to introduce our ministry and pray for the church's missions team that was gearing up for a week long trip. The remainder of the AM service went to a young lady who is working in a Christian school in Peru! We were excited to meet someone who shares our love for Peru.

In the PM service we shared with the youth group (in the missions home where we were staying) and showed them our slide presentation. Teens always have great questions for the missionary! Then we raced down the road to the adult service and sang a family special. Joshua tried to start the chorus twice before he was supposed to. Eric told him to get ready to sing, and he was definitely ready! This was the first time that Steven has sung with us. He waited until after we were finished singing and then belted out, "Follow, Follow, I would follow Jesus!" He continued singing as I led the boys out to the nursery!

Eric showed the presentation to the adults as well, and then preached the evening message. We enjoyed supper with the Pastor before packing up and driving back that same night. Our goal was to avoid the heat since our air conditioner needed to be fixed! We praise God that we were able to get it fixed today and replace our tires before our long trip down to NC this weekend.

Day 6, Friday- Texas!
Please pray with us specifically today about scheduling some meetings in Texas. During the past two years of traveling we have been able to stay pretty much along the Eastern seaboard with the occasional side trip into Michigan. We have a couple of meetings scheduled in Texas for later on this year, but wanting to make the best use of our time and resources we don't want to commit to going that far for only a few days! Can you imagine taking a one year old and a three year old from Pennsylvania to Texas, only to stay there for three or four days, and then drive back? We have endured a lot in the car, but we would definitely need the approval and clear guiding of the Holy Spirit before attempting such a feat!

Day 7, Saturday- Insurance
Pray for some health insurance decisions that we need to make for overseas care. Being "self-employed" we don't have the benefit of a company plan. We need a comprehensive plan that will reimburse us for services rendered in Peru (visits, surgery, births, life flight if needed, etc.) and that will also cover us when we are stateside. There are a lot of options out there and we need wisdom to choose one that will both meet our needs and be the best use of our finances.

Day 8, Sunday- Spirit-filled marriage relationship "God, prepare our hearts..."
I know that upon reading this title some may be thinking, "Are they having problems?" Anyone who is married can answer that question! Pray that we will continually keep God first, and our relationship second, so that as we grow closer to Him, we grow closer to each other! The uncertainties of deputation life can bring stress...that stress can cause tension...that tension can cause a focus on self...that focus on self can cause us to be unwilling to act and react with kindness and love. Bad Old Self! Always getting in the way of a good thing. Pray that the response to stress would be trusting in God...yielding to His peace...turning our focus to His will...causing us to kneel before Him together and to respond with Christ-like loving kindness. It's not always easy, but it is possible with God!Pardines In Peruhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16239087888254498943noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6070282579144663674.post-11242431780731904202012-03-08T07:37:00.005-05:002012-03-08T07:37:58.646-05:00Day 5-
Special note: Today's meeting at 11 am was rescheduled for 8 am.

Pray for good health (especially for the boys)!
If they thought about it they would probably tell you...
We travel through drastic changes of weather. We meet a lot of people. We shake a lot of hands. We play with a lot of toys. Sometimes we even get lots of hugs and kisses.
And Mommy would say...
Which means we come into contact with a lot of germs, and we aren't very keen on washing our hands!

Pray for Casandra's health (diabetes):
Right now everything is going well and we are working on diet control as a family. (which can also be affected by travel!).
Also, I have been having migraine headaches off and on of varying degrees so we are trying to determine the cause of that. (Goodbye caffeine!)

Pray for Eric's health:
If the boys are sick it's bad.
If Mommy is sick the house gets messy for awhile.
If Daddy is sick everything stops!

Please pray for Eric as he has several "face to face" meetings with Pastors this week.
He has one at 2pm today, 11am tomorrow, and 10am on Friday.
Pray that each meeting will be a meeting of two men and the Holy Spirit!
Pray for wisdom in sharing what is on his heart concerning the work in Peru.
Pray for safety in traveling to and from the meetings.
Pray for Mommy holding down the fort while Daddy is gone!

Also today, let's just praise the Lord!
Praise God for who He is!
I praise Him because He is Jehovah-Jireh, my Provider!Pardines In Peruhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16239087888254498943noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6070282579144663674.post-21178530013716396962012-03-06T09:29:00.002-05:002012-03-06T09:29:29.894-05:00Calling, Calling, Calling...
"God bless the missionaries and all that they do."
Well, here is one thing that missionaries on deputation must do without fail or they will never reach the mission field-call! Hours and hours of calling individuals, churches, pastors. Hours and hours of looking for new contacts from friends, family, acquaintances, the internet. You name it....we've searched it! Or if we haven't yet, please let us know so we can. :)

Pray for Eric as he calls today and throughout the week. Pray that the person on the other end of the phone will be helpful and considerate. Pray that Eric will be concise and clear in his message. Pray that doors would be opened for us to present the work in Peru. Pray that people will be up front about whether or not they can join our support team. Pray for sanity as two little children run around in the background and sometimes interrupt the calm flow of the day. (Ha, ha! Haven't seen a calm one yet.)

Most importantly, pray for Eric to stay encouraged as it may take 20 or 30 calls to reach someone who would like to receive our information packet. Then it might take 10 of those packets being sent out to schedule one meeting. And then it might take 20 meetings for our support to increase by 1%. So you can only imagine the amount of stress and discouragement this could cause. Yet through it all we know that God is in control of EVERYTHING! And if this is the small task that He asks of us on our way to Peru, then we will do it gladly. Pray that we will not be weary in well doing!
