Back to the land of the living

Well, it's Sunday and I'm still alive. Praise the Lord! After a week of bedrest and some interesting tests at the clinic I have survived my bout with the flu and a stomach virus without any medication! (unless Gatorade counts) The doctor was pretty sure that it was viral and decided to wait it out instead of risking harming the baby with antibiotics. I guess I can agree with him now, but I was not too happy as I "waited it out" flopping from one side of the bed to the other and eating saltine crackers. It's true what they say...you can have too much of a good thing! I don't think I'll want any chicken broth for a long, long time. This morning I actually made it to church. I got a little teary-eyed during the song service and remained sitting while everyone else stood up, but it was good to be back in the Lord's house on the Lord's day. Tomorrow we shall attempt to go back to work. Thanks for your prayers!

Baby Bump

Maybe you're thinking, "What in the world is that?" It is a pictured of the Baby Bump from the top down. If you look carefully you'll notice that the right side of the picture bulges out more than the left side. I assume that's because that is where the baby's head is. He must be super intelligent already since he needs so much extra space just for his head! Maybe it will all even out over the next few months as his body grows!

Not such a vacation!

After two days of enjoying ourselves I began to feel a little sick with flu-like symptoms. On the first day (Wednesday) we called the doctor to see what medicine I could take. She prescribed something akin to Tylenol cold and flu and I hopped into bed so Eric could wait on me. =) By the second day(Thursday) my symptoms were getting worse and my stomach continued to disobey me. When I added throwing up to my list we decided to visit the emergency room. Since I had a fever and my white blood cell count was high the emergency doctor decided it was best to admit me. They hooked me up to an I.V. and about an hour later I was taken up to my hotel room. Eric brought me one of my favorite furry friends to keep me company while he headed off to school to get ready for the 4th and final quarter starting Monday. Here I wanted to refuse to take any more bags of I.V. since each time they flushed the I.V. out to make sure it wasn't jammed. The feeling of an I.V. flushing is like setting your arm on fire (but only if it is clogged because it started to clot). I was also tired of being woken up every time I reached the pinnacle of "good sleep". After a day and a half I came home and Eric bought me flowers! The balloon is from one of the secretaries from school who came to visit me. When I finally had enough energy to take a good long look in the mirror without coughing, sneezing or runny eyes, I was definitely shocked to see my current hairstyle in all of its glory. Luckily I was wearing a scarf when I entered the clinic and kept it on pretty much the entire time! Ahh!! It's amazing what a shower, a little hair grease, and a brush can do for a wild Peruvian afro.

Vacation

Ahh, vacation! An entire week (well three days) to relax and not think about working. So what did we do? Eric studying away at the computer. The "guest room" under construction as we attempted to organize the church's collection of Sunday school choruses. After much tape, eraser bits, and discardings we came closer to the goal!

VACATION!

Workers fixing up the front of the church building. Our first Sunday in the newly constructed auditorium.
We made it! The third quarter of the school year is always the longest and for awhile we thought we wouldn't last. However, we are praising God for the extra burst of energy He provided in order for us to finish well. This week we are on vacation before starting the last quarter of the school year. Please pray that Casandra will be able to teach/supervise for as long as possible. At 6 months along the baby is really having a kicking good time and is beginning to toss and turn in the wee hours of the morning when most sane people want to sleep!
Our vacation activites will include: A few trips to school (you can't relax the entire time!) Organizing the Sunday School songs for church (a task we began in May!) Window shopping for a nice baby stroller/car seat combination (so we can get over the shock of the cost before we actually have to buy it) A trip to the mall to buy a new digital camera with video capabilities (Live action moments coming soon!) Relax! Relax! Relax!
The church construction project is moving along well. The architect should be able to hand it over to us within the next few weeks. Yet we still need about $5,000 to complete the project (windows, doors, restroom, etc.). Please continue to pray for the work in Musa!
